By making our procedures transparent and encouraging companies to work together, I believe that REACH could, in the longer term, help us achieve this."

ETCIC and the University of Hull are involved in an exciting pan-European project aimed at helping SMEs across Europe to understand REACH and how it will affect their future businesses.
TESS, which stands for Toolbox to support Environmental and Sustainable Systems, is developing an online, self-help toolbox to enable SMEs to comply with REACH and evaluate their choices for updating to more sustainable supply chains. |

When we all first heard about REACH, the scariest part was the notion that we'd have to speak to our competitors and actually work together to get the substances we use through this legislation.
This is a fairly radical notion for any sector, but particularly for one that invests huge funds into R&D.
The new language alone, with its strange terms such as IUCLID5 and SIEFs, rivalled anything the partical physicists could come up with and quite frankly, sent some of us into a COMAH!
Yet surprisingly, not only has the industry embraced the idea of working together, the networks that have developed have delivered many other benefits in terms of organisational synergy, innovative ideas and new contacts. |

HCF & ETCIC host successful network groups |

Humber Chemical Focus and the Environmental Technologies Centre for Industrial Collaboration hosted its first REACH network group meeting on 23 January at the University of Hull. Representatives from a range of companies across the Humber region and supply chain came out in force and delegates from 20 local leading companies attended the first network group meeting. It was a great success, well received and had a very positive response.
