University of Hull
ETCIC and Mytum & Selby join forces
Monday, 07 August 2006

ETCIC has recently been awarded a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) from the Department of Trade and Industry.

The KTP will provide funding for the sponsorship of an associate, who will work with Leeds-based Mytum & Selby. The associate will undertake the project at their new organic recycling facility which is based on the outskirts of Leeds.

The waste management industry needs to treat additional quantities of organic waste in response to increasing legislative pressures. The associate will lead the development of an in-vessel composting process at Mytum & Selby, using varied organic wastes sourced by the company.

The programme will aim to produce an optimised composting process whilst conforming to quality control, regulatory and health and safety issues.

ETCIC's involvement means that the company will benefit from access to appropriate academic expertise, along with use of state of the art analytical laboratory facilities necessary for measuring composting processes.

"We have been delighted with the assistance from ETCIC and believe the KTP programme will be an important element in our new business venture", states Steven Carrie, Managing Director of Mytum & Selby. "It provides us with the ideal opportunity to address a key business issue, developing our composting process, and also gives us access to ETCIC's first-class facilities", he added.

The scheme will suit a recent graduate in a scientific discipline looking to start their career within the waste management industry. The programme also benefits from a competitive salary and registration for a higher Degree at the University of Hull.

At this stage informal enquiries should be made to Dr John Adams for further information.
