ETCIC attended the recent key national event "The Energy Review and Waste Strategy Review Conference" in London. The conference, which was held on the 11th July at Westminster, included eminent speakers looking at aspects of energy and waste policy, with break-out sessions on PPS10 and Planning, Meeting LATS Targets and "Who Pays? The Environment, a threat to your business?" ![]() Keynote speaker at the event was Tim Smit, CEO and Co-founder of the Eden Project. Mr Smit outlined the industrial challenges facing companies over the next 300 years and the very real environmental issues facing all of us. It was very clear that there is a requirement to address not only today's needs, but the environmental and economic needs of future generations. He challenged the audience to ask themselves if they could be proud of their achievements so far. The public and private sectors face tough decisions on how to master the dual energy and waste challenge. Both need to engage in the process of infrastructure development, make their views heard and participate actively in this crucial debate. The conference also tackled predictions and strategies for coping with Local Authority waste management costs for the next generation. "The conference presented some very challenging issues" stated David Calvert of ETCIC. "But it was not afraid of pointing to some key steps on the way forward. ETCIC will be doing everything it can to ensure that businesses prepare themselves for the environmental challenges ahead", he added. |
