Reach out with TESS
Friday, 17 November 2006

The forthcoming European Legislation entitled 'Registration, Evaluation, and Authorisation of Chemicals', known to its friends as REACH, is going to have a wide reaching effect on chemical producers and users across Europe. Small and medium enterprises are going to be particularly affected, and ETCIC is delighted to be part of a pan-European project to help companies address a large number of issues caused by the REACH legislation.

The project funded under the European Sixth Framework Programme carries the acronym TESS which stands for 'Toolbox to Evaluate Sustainable Systems' and had its start up meeting in London on 21/22 September 2006 in London. In all there are 19 participants in the contract from the UK, Belgium, Italy, Finland, The Netherlands, Germany, Ireland and Greece and the project will span three years.

The major role of ETCIC is to lead the work package aimed at creating an easy to use guide for SMEs on how to respond to REACH and other Safety, Health and Environment legislation.

"Helping SMEs was a key objective in the Yorkshire Forward CIC programme and we are delighted to be involved in the TESS project", commented Dr David Calvert. For more information on the project please contact David Calvert.
