Simon Hill, Executive Director of Business for the Regional Development Agency, Yorkshire Forward, will visit Hull on Tuesday 11th September 2007. He will meet with some of the first delegates on the University’s pioneering Postgraduate Course in REACH Management. The course, the first of its kind in Europe, has been launched to train those responsible for managing their organisation’s compliance with the new REACH legislation. The REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation of Chemicals) legislation came into force in June 2007 and replaces the existing 40 EU directives on the control of chemicals under a single, all-embracing system. This legislation is expected to affect thousands of British businesses that manufacture chemicals or use them in their processes. The course, supported by Yorkshire Forward, has been developed by Environmental Technologies Centre of Industrial Collaboration (ETCIC) and the Faculty of Science based at the University of Hull. Simon Hill, who is to attend the reception for delegates taking a range of different course modules, says: "This innovative course is arming the region with the resources necessary - people on the frontline - to enable chemical companies to understand and comply with REACH legislation. The effort to get as many of our region’s companies in line with REACH legislation is important in not only securing the future of those chemical businesses already in the region but in attracting new business to Yorkshire and Humber, advancing the industry and the region's economy as a whole". ![]() Registrations are now being taken for all elements of the course and the next date for the first module is Monday 1st October 2007.
