Come along to the University of Hull's Sustainable Business Day on 14th September 2007,hear from Alan McLenaghan how you can be sustainable and win 'Factory of the Year'. ETCIC and the University of Hull are delighted Alan McLenghan has agreed to be a speaker at the "Make More of Your Resources" workshop at the ENTER THE FUTURE event on 14th September 2007. Alan studied Applied Chemistry at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, followed by a Ph.D. in Physics (Neutron and Light Scattering) from the University of Strathclyde and Institute Laue-Langevin, Grenoble, France. ![]() He began his career with ICI as a research and development scientist in the early nineties before taking a series of junior manufacturing positions with ICI in the United States and Holland. Alan joined DuPont in the mid-nineties as a member of a team constructing a £50M new asset from greenfield. He subsequently managed this asset, winning a National Training Award for the selection and training of the entire workforce of a new manufacturing asset and setting new standards in Safety and Productivity. In 1998 Alan joined Saint Gobain to lead the £85M construction and early operation of the float glass manufacturing plant. He subsequently project managed the addition of a second asset at the Eggborough site, a (£20M) plasma deposition plant before taking on the role as Site Director in 2003 for what became a three asset facility. Alan became the managing Director of SGGUK in August of this year. He is Saint Gobain Glass’ "Global Manufacturing Excellence" Director, represents Saint Gobain on the CBI’s manufacturing council, is a director of British Glass (the UK glass manufacturer’s federation) and supports the Yorkshire and Humber branch of the Bank of England in their economic forecasting. Alan’s plant won the prestigious Cranfield Institute of Management "Factory Of The Year Award" in 2005 and has followed this with National Training Awards, BCE (Business Commitment to the Environment Award) and the UK Glass Industry (GLASS) Health, Safety and Environment Award.
